How I Finally Managed My Seasonal Allergies

Seasonal Allergy Relief: I'm so grateful I came across this post - my allergies are unbearable some days! Hoping this might finally get me the relief I need.

Seasonal allergies are no walk in the park, and they’re unfortunately common.  Most people I know have them at some time or another, whether it’s in spring or fall, or for the unlucky few, the whole year.

I struggled with my allergies for a long time before getting a handle on them, and if you’re in the same boat, I want to share with you the biggest thing that made a difference.

First of all, I started seeking help for my allergies by talking to my doctor.

I didn’t discover that I was having issues with seasonal allergies for a long time because my symptoms were atypical.  Instead of getting the sniffles like most people do, I just got dizzy.

It was only after years of coming in for dizziness at the same time every single year that an astute doctor finally figured out that it was being caused by a dust and mold allergy!

If I hadn’t talked to my doctor, it would have taken a lot longer to figure out.

At the time, he advised that I try using Claritin (or the generic version, which is just as good and comes at a fraction of the cost).  It made a huge difference!

The only downside of the Claritin was that it was easy to forget to take it, especially with two kiddos running around to take care of.  In all the chaos, a lot of self-care goes out the window.

The best thing I’ve found to deal with my allergies has been my Venta Airwasher.  This has made, by far, the biggest impact on my allergies.

seasonal allergy relief

It’s a combination humidifier/air purifier that eliminates allergens and smells in the air, even tough ones like smoke (or smells from the aforementioned two children, as the case may be :).

Not only does it effectively get rid of my allergy symptoms, but it’s also really easy to clean.  You only have to clean it twice a year, and when it’s time, you just pop it in the dishwasher and you’re done. There’s no hassle of hand washing or scrubbing, which saves a ton of time.

The Airwasher is also cost-effective because it doesn’t use disposable filters you have to replace regularly like other air purifiers.  It’s energy-efficient as well, which means using it regularly isn’t going to make your electricity bill skyrocket.  Both of these things make it a little more eco-friendly than other options, too!

If you’re into Glade plug-in type things to scent your home, Venta also sells essential oils that can be used with the Airwasher, which makes it an even better value.  My personal favorite scent is the lavender, but they have several different ones, and even a variety pack if you’re not sure which one you’ll like.

There are a ton of great things about it, but honestly, the most important thing about it is simply that it helps my allergies – no more dizziness for me!

Do you suffer from seasonal allergies?

I’ve been suffering big time this year. I finally got allergy tested a few years ago and I’m highly allergic to dust mites and ragweed. I’ve taken some steps like trying to dust more frequently and purchased a mattress and pillowcase cover. I use a neti pot. I just went to the ENT and they told me to try Flonase which seems to be helping already. I had never tried a mist before.

My seasonal allergies are pretty bad. But last year I found out I’m actually allergic to a bunch of different things! Including: cats, pollen, grass, and mold. Try going outside, seriously. My allergist has been a lifesaver and pet filters have helped, but I hate feeling like I forever have a cold.

I use local honey. It’s been an amazing help & has almost eliminated my seasonal allergies. It has to be local to the area you’re in & can be a little hard to find.
We’ve been moving around a lot these last few years so I do my research before we move to find it.
It can take some time to start working. But the way I feel now, without the allergies, it’s astonishing! Plus I love ginger lemon tea with some honey in it.
I also use Zaditor eye drops & hardly ever have to worry about itchy eyes. Ah-mazing!
